📏Why This Event?
When society frames us with standards of "centimeters" and "inches," breeding anxiety about our own bodies and the bodies of others, can we reclaim the power to define ourselves? Can we restore the body from an "object being watched" back to a "subject being felt"? We are gathering this time to deconstruct those rigid standards through intimate touch, rebuilding a genuine body image that is full of warmth and accepting of differences.
🎨What Are We Doing?
Led by a queer artist, we will embark together on a reconstruction experiment of body image! Starting with crafting your own "body ruler," we will discard cold, industrial measurements and use our palms and knuckles to record one another. By measuring and sketching the rise and fall of each other's collarbones or the width of a embrace, we will transform these emotional data points into words and images, handcrafting a Zine that belongs uniquely to you.
This Zine is not just a record; it is a tactile memory. Together, we will dismantle societal discipline and embrace our unique, individual bodies.
🙋♂️Who Is This For?
"Loved ones" are not limited to romantic couples—as long as there is an "emotional connection," you are eligible! Couples looking to deepen their bond, family members with close ties, best friends who share everything, or pet owners wanting to record their companions from a new perspective are all welcome. You can even bring an object filled with soul and memory. Anyone who wishes to understand the "other" through touch and measurement is invited to join.
🎨About the Artist
Yuuna Yu’s creative work explores the mutual infiltration of bodily perception and spatial politics, attempting to establish a resistant language of perception within her art. Her duo piece, The Internalization of Skin, was presented at the Kwai Tsing Theatre in Hong Kong, utilizing experimental theater to examine the skin as a dialectical interface between the body and the environment. She excels at observing the world through non-standard lenses, challenging society's discipline of the "normal" body through spatial and bodily experimentation. Through art workshops, she connects communities, allowing everyone to reclaim the right to define their own subjecthood amidst vulnerability and difference.
Spaces are limited, so hurry up and invite your loved one to join! ✨
