Tie to Connect: a Rope Art Retreat

Tie to Connect: a Rope Art Retreat

2026/05/10 15:00–19:00c.95d8 Crip SpaceWorkshop

This is a live performance creation that uses rope to guide participants to create internal connections and practice caring for their inner child. It is also a blessing for mastering the ability of self-love.

😶‍🌫️ "The voice of the outside society always tells people to jump out of their comfort zone and talks about how to motivate to success. Self-care and self-love have become marketing strategies to drive up premiums. It seems that if you stay in your comfort zone, you will fall behind. If you don't pursue a success defined by others, you will fail, making the cost of self-love more and more expensive. Ableism and capitalism collude, but in fact, it doesn't care about human feelings and happiness. Retreating from such voices, returning to and building a comfort zone that allows the body and mind to recover, because self-care/love is a self-healing process that happens within."

Rope 🪢 has been used by humans since ancient times for rescue, guiding, rituals, blessings, sailing, and mountain climbing; while the daily function of binding is protection, connection, and support. Rope and the body have been the field for me to reflect on physical and mental perception, trust, safety, and a sense of boundaries for many years. Blending the experience of collaborating with an Art Therapist, as well as relevant reading, thinking, and expressive arts therapy learning, I have transformed this process into a creation to reconnect with inner feelings and bodily awareness, and to practice establishing clear boundaries.

"A journey/game that triggers imagination and improvisational art, awakening the inner creative healing that originates from yourself."

What kind of experience will it be?
Everyone will use rope, body, objects, imagination, and space to do live creations that respond to the inner self, and complete and record your works related to the inner-child and boundaries. Throughout the process, I will be your voice navigation and rope technical support. I will also first teach several extremely simple ways to use rope to help everyone utilize this material.

💝 A mini-rope-art gift for every participant as a souvenir 👾

Binding stones 🪢🪨 is a blessing for those who come here by chance. Stones have many metaphors—a heavy stone on one's heart, Sisyphus, Cairn stone towers. It carries history, scars, and is hard yet uniquely beautiful, just like the human heart.
