【Reimagining "Normalcy" within the Interweaving of Silence and Sound】
Life is often too noisy; we are accustomed to relying on external sounds to construct our world. But if sound were to temporarily recede, what would we perceive?
Within c.95d8—a Crip space that embraces diverse bodies—we invite you to temporarily set aside your attachment to "able-bodied perception" and experience a gentle yet profound sensory journey. This is not about pitying anyone; rather, it allows you to experience firsthand that being hard-of-hearing is never a lack, but a way of perceiving with ultimate focus.
The silent world of hard-of-hearing artist Zita is not a blank space waiting to be filled, but a unique bodily experience. Under her guidance, the warmth of pour-over coffee and the strokes of Zentangle art become a connection that transcends language. She demonstrates to us that when we let go of a singular imagination of "normalcy," the sensory world reveals itself as vast and exquisite.
Monica, a meditation guide, accompanies you to experience the awareness of "living in the present" through the resonance of singing bowls, dialogues with Zen cards, and foundational sitting meditation. The equality and harmony pursued in meditation—free of labels and binary oppositions—perfectly align with the spirit of Crip culture, which challenges the mainstream and embraces diversity.
Here, sound and silence are no longer the opposition between disability and normalcy, but rather an interwoven, mutually reinforcing practice of mindfulness.
During these four hours, you are invited to honestly explore inward, feel every breath, and redefine your understanding of "perception," "normalcy," and "the present moment."
